SMEs and Sustainability: MEF Publishes New Guidelines for Bank Dialogue

December 7, 2024
The Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) has released the final version of the “Guidelines for Sustainability Dialogue between SMEs and Banks.” This tool helps small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) collect and communicate ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) information. While not a reporting standard, the document aims to simplify data exchange between businesses and banks, reducing excessive and overly complex information requests.

The guidelines are structured into five sections covering general, climate, environmental, social, and governance aspects, with a modular approach tailored to company size. The document aligns with European regulatory developments, particularly the VSME ESRS, the draft standard under consultation for voluntary ESG reporting by SMEs.

This publication marks a significant step for businesses seeking to enhance ESG transparency and facilitate access to financing.
